Color Research Gallery
An online gallery of paintings created by students and artists connected to Columbia College Chicago in 2022. All work is informed by the research carried out at the Colorlab in Gent, reducing usage of toxic materials to a minimum. The work showcases the potential of alternative and non-petroleum derived coloring materials in a Fine Art painting context as a viable source for paints and pigments. Many of the experimental paints are derived from unusual resources such as lab grown micro algae, scientifically processed plant materials, or other pigments that do not involving mining and minerals, heavy metals, petrochemicals, VOCs or carcinogenic solvents.
